Our design approach is to combine beauty and functionality with environmental sustainability. We believe in recycling and refurbishing materials, whenever possible, to bring new life to a used piece of furniture or an old space. This winning philosophy is a boost for our clients as it minimizes waste and reduces unnecessary cost, while still achieving the client’s unique design personality.

Biography

Katen Karlten, Allied Member ASID, founder and sole owner of Bloom Again Interior Design, has over 30 years experience in the design and construction industry.

Katen’s entrepreneurial spirit began at an early age when she worked for her father who was a developer and owner/operator of a building supplies store and 10 sundry stores. She started helping her father in her teens where she developed a passion for pounding a nail in a piece of wood or mixing paint to get that right color for the client. She eventually moved on to the in-house Advertising Department where she gained valuable experience in layout and design, and media buying. Katen collaborated with the graphics designer in designing and producing the sales presentation portfolio for the Ko Olina Resort & Marina on the west coast of Oahu for Centex Destination Properties (a company known for its resort community development).

Katen’s diverse background also includes a stint as co-owner of a successful construction company in Hawaii, which included both commercial and residential renovations. Prior to returning to Hawaii, she also co-owned two restaurants in Florida which allowed her to develop innovative ways in using color, lighting, furniture and accessories that blends into a functional yet welcoming atmosphere for the restaurant patron.

Design Services

Katen frequently collaborates with developers and architects, as well as individual homeowners, in planning the design process. She meets with the client to determine their vision, personality and budgetary requirements, then formulates a design plan taking into account the client’s concept, using innovative and eco-friendly designs.
